In this article, I show how to use the Eject Pin Hole to manually eject the tray on your computers CD / DVD drive. There will be times when you need to open the tray on your computers CD / DVD drive when the system is powered off. You need to boot your computer using the CD / DVD drive. WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including nickel, lead, which are known to the State of California to cause cancer. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov. On the S, you have to input the PIN to select Valet mode, which disables PIN-to-drive while the car is in Valet mode. You don't need to remember to give the valet your PIN, which is a good thing. I can't imagine it would be different on the 3. When you drag a folder or drive on the taskbar, they get a 'Pin to File Explorer' in the jump list option by default. While you could add a folder or drive as a toolbar on the taskbar, it just is not the same as directly pinning the folder or drive to the taskbar like apps. This tutorial will show.
If you are working with an integrated circuit (IC) and the datasheet mentions an open drain or open collector, that’s engineering speak for a current sink on an output pin. For those unfamiliar with the terminology, a “current sink” means that the current is flowing into the pin (or node, etc.), not out of the pin. A kitchen sink drains water. In this case, a current sink drains current.) The opposite of a current sink is a “current source,” which is when the pin is driving an output current and therefore supplying current to whatever is connected to that pin. (Continuing the kitchen analogy, the current source would be the water spigot.)Recall that a transistor is essentially an ON/OFF switch embedded in silicon. The thing that controls the transistor’s switching behavior is the base. ( Figure 1.) If the IC output is flowing into the base, it will switch on a flow of current through the transistor (i.e., the transistor switch is “ON.”) If there’s no flow or too little flow through IC output to control the transistor, then there is no current flow through the transistor (i.e., the transistor switch is “OFF.”) In this way, transistors control the flow of current and control voltage potentials throughout a circuit made up of hundreds to billions of transistors, depending on the IC. Figure 1: Open drain means the same as open collector, the exception being the type of device (FET device or BJT/bipolar transistor). The term “open drain” means there’s a current sink, but on a FET device, for example, a MOSFET. (A MOSFET is like a transistor that can handle higher voltages but operates in much the same way.)The term “open collector” refers to a current sink on a transistor output. If an NPN transistor is left unconnected, or open but connected to an external pin, it’s an open collector. The transistor will switch to ground when it’s active, thus “sinking” current (i.e., connecting to ground and thus current is shunted to ground for “recycling” in the ground plane). Both a current source and a current sink have current flowing but in different directions. In both cases, the main point in the term open drain or collector is that part of the output transistor is directly brought out to a pin that is external to the IC package.Open-collector and -drain devices sink current when controlled to one state and have no current flow (i.e., output a high impedance state) in the other state. It is fairly common to use open-drains (open-collectors) together with a pull-up resistor. The pull-up resistor is connected to high (supply voltage) at one end and connected to one or more external pins of the open-drain/-collector devices all connected together. Thus, if any one of the open-drain (open-collector) devices is set to sink current, current flow for all of the devices gets sunk to the ground, since they are all connected at the same point.that holds the signal line high until a device on the wire sinks enough current to pull the line low. Many devices can be attached to the signal wire. If all devices attached to the wire are in their non-active state, the pull-up will hold the wire at a high voltage. If one or more devices are in the active state, the signal wire voltage will be low. Basically, the circuit has a resistor between it and the path to 5V (pull-up resistor). Pull-up resistors are used so that when the FET (transistor) is “OFF” the wire will to the high voltage, which is usually supply voltage for the circuit.Filed Under:, Tagged With. In this article, I show how to use the Eject Pin Hole to manually eject the tray on your computers CD / DVD drive. There will be times when you need to open the tray on your computers CD / DVD drive when the system is powered off. You need to boot your computer using the CD / DVD drive. You need to retrieve a disk without starting up the computerCaution: Turn off power to the system before manually ejecting a disk. All CD / DVD drives have a Eject Pin Hole. The only thing we need is a paper clip to use it (I am using a #1 size for this article). All we have to do is bend it at the first curve 180 degrees (straitening it out). Then take the second curve and bend it 90 degrees. Now we need to locate the Eject Pin Hole.Desktop CD / DVD drives:Gently insert the modified paper clip into the Eject Pin Hole until you feel it make contact with the gear underneath the tray. Firmly pressing inward, you will notice the tray to start to move out. Press inward until you have enough room to get your finger under the tray and then pull it out the rest of the way. If you can only get a small portion of the tray out, you can use the other end of the paper clip to gently pry open the tray enough to get your finger under it. Once done, gently push back the tray to the closed position. It will close firmly when the system is powered up.Laptop - Notebook CD / DVD drives:The trays on laptops/notebooks are spring loaded, so all that is needed is to release the locking mechanism. You do not have to insert the paper clip as far as with a desktop CD / DVD drive, as you are not connecting to the gearing under the tray. Gently insert the paper clip into the Eject Pin Hole. Once you feel it make contact, gently push in and the tray will eject immediately. Once done, gently push the tray back inward until it locks back into place.Enjoy,Scott. To Pin a Drive to the Taskbar as an EXE File1. Open Notepad, and click on File (Menu bar) and Save as. (see screenshot below)NOTE: You will need to leave notepad blank.2. Navigate to your desktop. Under Save as type, change it to All Files (.), type in a name you want for this (ex: Drive C.exe) with the.exe file extension at the end, and click on the Save button. (see screenshot below)3. Close Notepad.4. Drive Pin RivetsRight click on the saved.exe file on your desktop (ex: Drive C.exe), and click on Pin to Taskbar.5. Right click on the pinned.exe icon on the taskbar, right click on the.exe file (ex: Drive C.exe) in the jump list, and click on Properties. (see screenshot below)6. In the Start in field, make sure it's blank. In the Target field, change it to be the drive letter path (ex: C: ) that you want the pinned icon on the taskbar to open. (see screenshots below)7. Log off and log on, or restart the computer to have the icon on the taskbar to change to the correct drive icon afterwards. (see screenshot below)8. You can now drag the drive icon any where you like within the other pinned icons on the taskbar if you like. (see screenshot above)9. You can now delete the.exe file on your desktop (ex: Drive C.exe) if you like. To Pin a Drive to the Taskbar as a Toolbar1. Right click on the Desktop and click on New and Folder, then rename the new folder Drives and press Enter.NOTE: You can rename the folder anything you like. I'm just using Drives as an example in this tutorial.2. Open the Computer window (Start Menu), then right click on any drive (ex: C: drive) that you want to pin to the taskbar and click on Create shortcut. This will create a shortcut for this drive on your desktop. (see screenshot below)NOTE: You can create a shortcut for one or more drives if you like to use in step 3 below to pin them all to the taskbar as well.3. Select and Move all drive shortcuts on the desktop created in step 2 into the Drives folder (step 1).4. Now Move the Drives folder to a location (ex: in My Documents folder) that you want to keep it saved at.NOTE: The Drives folder must remain at this location for it to continue to work when finished pinning it to the taskbar.5. Press and hold the Shift key, right click on the Drives folder (step 4), release Shift, and click on Copy as path.NOTE: This path will be used in step 8 below.6.7. Right click on a empty space on the taskbar and click on Toolbars and New toolbar. (see screenshot below)8. Right click in the Folder line and click on Paste to copy the path of the Drives folder from step 5, then click on Select Folder. (see screenshots below)9. On the taskbar, right click on the dotted lines just to the left of the Drives toolbar icon, then uncheck Show Title by clicking on it. (see screenshot below)10. To Select a Small or Large Pinned Drive Icon A) Right click on the dotted lines just to the left of the drive, then click on View and select either Large Icons or Small Icons for the drive(s) on the taskbar. (see screenshots below)11. To Keep or Remove Pinned Drive Text A) Right click on the dotted lines just to the left of the drive, then click on View and click on Show Text to check (keep) or uncheck (remove) the drive name. (see screenshots below)12. To Keep the Pinned Drive on the Right Side of Taskbar A) Left click on the dotted lines just to the left of the drive and hold, then drag it to the left and right some to make any adjustments to how you want the drive(s) positioned on the right side of the taskbar. (see screenshot below)B) Release the left click when done.C) Go to step 14.13. To Have the Pinned Drive on the Left Side of Taskbar A) Left click on the dotted lines just to the left of the drive and hold, then drag it all the way to the left past the other on the left side of the taskbar and release. (see screenshot below)B) Left click on the dotted lines just to the left of the on the now right side and hold, then drag it to the left until next to the drive and release. (see screenshots below)NOTE: If you have another pinned on the left (ex: ) that you would like to keep to the far left instead of the pinned Drive icon, then you can drag the drive icon just to the right of it as well if you like.14.15. You now have a pinned drive on the taskbar. (see example screenshot at the top of the tutorial). Sorry for posting in a old topic, but there is a easier way to pin drives to taskbar. You take a blank notepad and save as 'whatever.exe' ( I will just name it 'Drive C' to make it easier) I placed the Drive C.exe in the C drive for safe keeping. Make a shortcut and pin that shortcut to the taskbar, right click on it then right click on Drive C click on properties then rename the target line to C: and that's it your done. Then just repeat for other drives you may have. Sorry if you have this posted some where. I haven't gone thru the entire site yet. Hello Wrath, and welcome to Seven Forums.Thank you, but the only problem is that the shortcut using that method wouldn't have a 'Pin to taskbar' option. You could drag it onto the taskbar to pin it inside the Windows Explorer jump list though. You could pin the EXE to the taskbar, right click on it, right click on 'Drive C' in the jump list, click Properties, and change target to C. However, the icon on the taskbar would be default application icon and not a drive icon without a way to change it.Am I missing a step or something??
